On 12 October 2026 "The X Subscription" was announced: a single subscription that bundles Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. It has five tiers, from free to $200 a month. For anyone who has so far paid for several of these separately, what changes is mainly the bill, and for Cursor users also which AI models are included in the subscription.
What happened
The subscription was announced by a company that appears in the reports as SpaceXSI or SpaceXAI; the sources are inconsistent in the naming. It combines four things: the language model Grok, Grok Bot, the coding editor Cursor and the X Premium membership. Everything runs through one bill and one shared usage allowance. According to the reports the rollout reaches everyone worldwide within a few days.
The five tiers
| Tier | Monthly fee | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | limited chat and agent requests; basic X actions such as posting, replying, following |
| Plus | $8 | access to Cursor and X Premium features such as the checkmark and fewer ads |
| Premium | $30 | four times the AI usage of Plus, plus Grok Bot |
| Super | $100 | fifteen times Plus, priority at peak times |
| Ultra | $200 | fifty times Plus |
The latest Grok models are available only from Premium. The free tier has limited chat and agent use. Grok Bot also starts at Premium. For new customers this replaces the route via Cursor Pro at $20, which had been the cheapest way in since 26 August. One source also gives annual amounts: Plus $80, Premium $300 and Super $1,000. Teams can have members on different tiers; for example, three Premium seats and one Super seat are allowed.
The provider justifies the Premium tier with a calculation: it bundles features that previously cost $90 a month separately, namely through SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+. That calculation is the provider's own statement.
One shared pot
Paid tiers share one allowance for Grok models across Grok, Cursor, Grok Build and other Grok products. It is renewed weekly. Cursor writes in its announcement that paid tiers get twice the coding usage on Grok models compared with the equivalent Cursor plan.
Models from other providers in Cursor, such as Claude or GPT, are according to most reports included in no tier and are billed at the API list rates. That leaves more room for Grok usage in the allowance. The New Stack's headline accordingly says that Claude now costs extra. Another source contradicts this in detail: according to it, third-party models stay usable from Premium up and are billed separately through top-ups at the API list rates.
Background
Until now these offers were available separately: SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+. Cursor Pro cost $20 a month. Cursor writes that existing subscribers can keep their plan or switch to "The X Subscription"; plan, fee and features continue as long as you change nothing. Reports point out that keeping the old plan may apply only temporarily; one report describes it as available "for now".
The sources describe the switch as follows: existing subscribers of SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium do not have to switch. The option appears gradually in billing settings and includes a prorated refund for the unused time of the old plan. Once a switch has been made, it is permanent as soon as the accounts are merged. The old plans are closed to new customers. An official table showing which old tier corresponds to which new one is not in the sources evaluated; the reports differ here.
What this means
For Cursor users, a lot depends on which models they have used so far. Anyone who mainly works with Grok gets, according to Cursor, twice the usage of the equivalent Cursor plan. Anyone who uses Claude or GPT in the editor every day must expect those models to be charged extra at the API list rates; exactly how is reported differently by the sources. Before switching, it is worth looking at Cursor's help page.
For X users, the free tier keeps the basic actions, but the newest Grok models require at least Premium. Plus brings the checkmark and fewer ads.
For teams, it matters that members may be on different tiers. That allows allowances to be distributed as needed.
Anyone who already subscribes does not have to do anything, but should know that the switch is permanent and that, according to a report, keeping the old plan need not be unlimited.
A note on interpretation: the information relies on reports and help pages; they contradict each other on third-party models and on how old tiers map to new ones. The provider's own information on the tiers is authoritative.
